"HOOPS TO END HOMELESSNESS"

18th ANNUAL ELIZABETH COALITION TO HOUSE THE HOMELESS

BASKETBALL CLASSIC

Tripleheader Features NJ's Top High School Boys' Basketball Teams

Elizabeth, NJ - For the 18th year in a row, New Jersey’s best high school basketball teams will battle for ranking and improved conditions for local homeless people during the annual "Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless Basketball Classic - Hoops to End Homelessness" on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Dunn Sports Center in Elizabeth, NJ. This year features top ranked schools St. Patrick's High School of Elizabeth, NJ vs. Roselle Catholic High School of Roselle, NJ.

The Basketball Classic is the major fundraiser for the Coalition, Union County’s frontline organization responding to the needs of local homeless families and individuals – working families, families on unemployment, children and those retired or disabled. The tournament is especially significant at this time as the number of homeless people spikes up dramatically as a result of the current economic crises.

This year, the classic high school tripleheader will be played beginning at 5 p.m.:

5:00 PM - St. Mary's High School of Elizabeth vs. Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School

6:45 PM - Elizabeth High School vs. Franklin High School

8:15PM - St. Patrick's High School of Elizabeth vs. Roselle Catholic

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets are  also available  at B.B. Miller & Co., 283 North Broad St., Elizabeth. For ticket information, call 908-351-3582.  If not sold out, tickets will be available after 4:00 p.m. at the door of the Dunn Sports Center on the day of the game.

Proceeds from the tripleheader benefit The Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, one of the first agencies to work with homeless people in the State of New Jersey.

Since its inception in 1981, The Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless has been in the forefront of responding to the needs of thousands of homeless families and individuals in Union County.  The Basketball Classic, the major fundraiser for the Coalition, brings together corporate sponsors, local businesses, and individual fans of high school basketball as well as top ranked teams in New Jersey to raise public consciousness regarding the issue of homelessness, and to assist those in need of shelter and food.
